Back in the day The Troxy was a cinema built on the old site of a brewery owned by The Commercial Brewery Company Ltd. It is lovely and lavish, sparkling like a beacon, in the center of Stepney, London. In fact, it was the largest cinema in Britain! The first film to ever be shown was King Kong in 1933. The Troxy miraculously survived the war and continued showcasing performances by the likes of Vera Lynn, Earl Cameron, Clarke Gable, Gracie Fields, Cliff Richard, Petula Clarke and the Andrews sisters. In 1960 the cinema finally closed. In 1963 the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden reopened it as rehearsals stage. It was a bingo hall for some time and then in 2006 it reopened once again as The Troxy.
